Tour History & Mission

History:

The Arts North Studio Tour was conceived by Desiree and Larry Smith in 2007. The Smiths generated a number of art events in N. Seattle via the Haller Lake Arts Council, a non-profit organization established by the couple. The vision for the tour were dormant for a time, but happily, renewed energy surfaced in June of 2014, when a steering committee of four artists assembled to organize the tour. Our first tour was September of 2015.

Mission statement:

In 2014 four artists caught the vision to organize a studio tour, a two day annual event. The purpose of the tour was to invite the public into artists’ home studios, to start creative conversations, and to give artists a local event where they could have a comfortable place to show and sell their work. Staying within tight community boundaries and using the KISS method (Keep it Simple Sweetheart), we organize and promote the tour using grassroots word of mouth, social media and simple distribution of inexpensive media, keeping the costs reasonable for all. Each participating studio owner decides on the personality they want to project by choosing suitable guest artists and promoting their own studio as well as the overall tour.
